The Story

Hydraulic Log Splitter Valve – 25 GPM, 3,500 PSI, Adjustable Detent, C5 Reverse Configuration

Single-Spool Open-Center Valve • Reverse Port Orientation • Adjustable Detent

The WSD31-286 C5 Hydraulic Log Splitter Valve is a heavy-duty replacement control valve designed for log splitters that use a reverse inlet, outlet, and work-port configuration. Rated for flow rates up to 25 GPM and operating pressures up to 3,500 PSI, this single-spool, open-center valve provides dependable hydraulic control for compatible splitter systems.

This valve is commonly used on certain Brave and Champion log splitters, although it may fit other brands and models with the same hydraulic layout. Its port orientation is reversed from the configuration commonly found on many SpeeCo, Husky, Oregon, Tractor Supply, and MTD log splitters.

The adjustable detent system allows the kick-out pressure to be fine-tuned for the application. As the detent balls and grooves wear over time, the threaded end cap allows further adjustment, helping extend the valve’s useful service life.

Important fitment notice: This is the less-common reverse port configuration. Carefully compare the inlet, outlet, A, and B port locations with your existing valve and the product photos before ordering.

Key Features & Benefits

  • 25 GPM Maximum Flow Capacity
Supports the hydraulic flow requirements of many residential and commercial log splitters.
  • 3,500 PSI Maximum Pressure Rating
Built to handle demanding hydraulic wood-splitting applications.
  • C5 Reverse Port Configuration
Inlet, outlet, and work-port locations are reversed from the configuration used on many common splitter valves.
  • Adjustable Detent Pressure
Factory set at approximately 700 PSI and adjustable to match the hydraulic system’s operating requirements.
  • Adjustable Pressure Relief Valve
Factory set at approximately 3,000 PSI and adjustable when required for a compatible hydraulic system.
  • Threaded Detent End Cap
Screws off for easier access to the detent-pressure adjustment.
  • Single-Spool Operation
Provides straightforward hydraulic cylinder control for compatible log splitter systems.
  • Open-Center Design
Allows hydraulic fluid to circulate through the valve while the spool is in the neutral position.
  • Heavy-Duty Cast-Iron Body
Provides strength and durability for demanding outdoor power-equipment applications.
  • Serviceable Detent Design
Allows adjustments as the internal detent balls and grooves experience normal wear.
  • Common Brave and Champion Application
Frequently found on compatible Brave and Champion splitters, as well as select models from other manufacturers.

C5 Reverse Configuration vs. Common A7 Configuration

The C5 valve uses the opposite port orientation from the configuration found on many common log splitter valves. Although the valves may look similar and share comparable pressure and flow ratings, they are not automatically interchangeable.

Before ordering, compare:

  • Inlet-port location
  • Outlet or tank-port location
  • A and B work-port locations
  • Handle orientation
  • Mounting-hole spacing
  • Hose routing

Important Installation Information

This valve is not universal. Verify that the port configuration, thread sizes, flow rating, pressure rating, mounting dimensions, and hydraulic circuit match your log splitter.

Hydraulic installation and pressure adjustments should be performed by someone familiar with hydraulic systems. Incorrect hose connections or excessive pressure settings may damage the pump, cylinder, hoses, valve, or other hydraulic components.
